In a world where everyone is telling you to be everything… do you, Mama. For the past year and a half, I’ve been doing things because I had to, to survive. To provide for my family, because I have a talent – and it would be a “waste not to pursue it”. Doing just that, nearly killed me. You don’t have to be something to everyone, friend. In doing so, you’ll find yourself worn so thin you won’t even shower. You’ll despise your phone, an incoming text from a well meaning friend that is just too much to answer. Another person…
A New Chapter
From Living Intentional
Unplugged Birthday Celebrations.
It’s been a little while since I’ve had a chance to catch up on our family blog, but after an amazing weekend spent at a 1913 Homestead celebrating my 26th Birthday weekend – documenting is a must. Instead of writing about how thoroughly we enjoyed being out of cell service for four days, or how the smell of bonfire + muddy clothes is still prevalent in my laundry room, I figured I’d share 25 different lessons during my last 25th year of life. Friends are the family you get to choose… but choose wisely. My husband is more stronger, and capable than I ever…
Sunday Reflections.
The first week of January I found myself questioning all the things, and feeling this maddening, indivisible pressure to have my life goals and plans written out in a thousand page diary. Oh the pressure of a new year. You see, I have all these amazing changes I want to make, and so my wheels start to spin. Then I see something else I’d love to do… and jump on that train too. Before I knew it, my mind was spinning faster than a carnival ride, yet my spirit and body couldn’t quite make sense of what to do next.…
A different kind of Christmas + our Advent calendar.
As many of you know, minimalism and slow living seem to be taking over not only our home, but our lives these days. I’ll be the first to tell you Christmas preparations look a thousand times different now, than they did just last year. In the past, I would have lugged in SIX different Christmas Rubbermaid’s… full of decorations, stockings, garlands, ornaments, wrapping paper, etc. Decorating for the holiday season was no easy feat, and oftentimes cluttered the house with all things nutcracker, sparkly, and even remotely Christmas. The kids would kind of help… but because I’m so OCD about where everything…
A New Biz Perspective | vintage whites market weekend.
Trying to begin this blog post with serious Mom/Holiday Brain is like trying to start a fire after a snowstorm… but here goes! 🙂 – Warning.. it’s LONG. First of all, I just want to give a HUGE thank youuuuuu to all my local friends/followers for your continued support. Our little family is currently trying to pay 100% out of pocket (because our bill sharing marked it as “pre-existing”) for my knee surgery on Thursday, and every little bit helps… so THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. I cannot truly express how much it meant to see old friends,…
The Global Guardian Project.
In the spirit of running with our latest Eco-Minimalism Post, we’ve also made the decision to become Global Guardians. What does it mean to become a Global Guardian, who are they? “We are a tribe of parents, educators, activists and artists who share a common goal. We want to raise our children to become guardians of our planet, to be inspired and empowered to care for the Earth in a way we adults haven’t. It’s no secret that we’ve created a mess. But we can do something about it today, while our children are young, that will teach them that proper…
The Art of Letting Go.
As a Mum of three children under 6 years young, I’ve learned a few things about embracing this stage of my life. Here are my suggestions + tips for survival with wild ones. 1.Showering everyday isn’t necessary (and actually helps you hair grow longer). 2.Don’t even try to attempt errands during lunch time. 3. Getting children dressed is overrated… especially if you aren’t leaving the house that day. Oh and even if you do, they can still go naked unless going into the store. Or even more so – naked kids can go into the store when you disguise them…
Minimalism + Kids | bringing back imaginative play.
So by now many of you have decided that you’d LOVE to live a minimalist lifestyle, but there’s one catch… you have kids. As we began our minimal journey in January of 2016 – I started paying closer attention to what we would consume as a family, and what items sat in corners untouched for weeks. I was always the Mom who wanted my kids to have baby dolls (and EVERYTHING that comes with), dress up clothes, a vast array of art supplies, all my childhood books plus books they picked from store shelves, the cutest rooms on the planet which involved all sorts…
Intentional + Minimal | a new series.
Lately I’ve been getting a lot of requests from friends about our family’s minimalism or slow living journey, and where to start. There’s a lot of my heart in this topic, so I’ll be starting a new series posting once a week, or every other week about a different “type” of minimalism, and how our family of five relates. To begin our series I’m going to offer up some of my favorite minimal/slow living social accounts to follow, books, and beginning tips. As we continue, please remember that this process looks different for EVERYONE. Some might have a slow living mindset, but a house full of “clutter”.…
Rainy Day Reflections.
Time has been a friend of ours this past month. While I feel a constant urge to race against it, because there’s so much to do and always not enough time, I’m reminded to embrace this season. Blessings have begun to make themselves more apparent, while burdens have equally bore down on our moral. Self-Employment. Business has been great, thankfully so. I couldn’t do this whole motherhood + business thing without my best friend continually by my side. Offering support, a hand, or advice when needed. This is what I’ve worked so hard for, what WE have worked so hard for,…
